The weather was cool and rainy but we still set out for the far northern reaches of New Hampshire. The promise of a clearing sky in the afternoon gave us hope. On our anniversary, Bill and I love to travel up to New Hampshire's "Moose Alley" in the beautiful Pittsburg area. Canoeing and hiking was the agenda for the day.
![]() Moose Alley - We always drive all the way north to the Canadian border, searching the roadsides. This first moose was a big bull just south of the 3rd Connecticut Lake. |
![]() Gray jay - We started out canoeing but soon turned back when the rain showed no sign of stopping soon. Just as we were leaving, a pair gray jays (Canada jay), the large fluffy gray birds of the cool northern forest, landed right beside us. |
![]() Whitetail buck - It was too wet to canoe so a short hike sounded good. Such an unusual thing happened. We saw a deer on the road, took a couple of pictures before it disappeared. |
